BAKHARDOK

Chondrite L6
Find, 1978
Turkmenistan, Ashkhabad region
One stone weighing 4.1 kg
Photo shows a 1765 g piece

This meteorite was found by a geophysical exploration team in the Karakum desert near the Karykak oasis. I. I. Pronin found the stone and noted its unusual color and weight, and brought it to the expedition camp. Senior Technician A.G. Ilyin suggested the stone might have a cosmic origin. They decided to submit the find to the Physical Technical Institute of the Turkmenian Academy of Sciences, from whence it was submitted to our meteorite collection.
